SC/ST Research Scholars and PG Students celebrate Ambedkar birth anniversary
Mangaluru: SC/ST Research Scholars and PG students celebrated the 124th birth anniversary of architect of our constitution Dr. B.R Ambedkar on Tuesday April 14. Inaugurating the Function, Bhudist monk Dhamma Bhanhthji said the majority of downtrodden suffered people took patron under Buddhism for its valuable ends. Presently we need religion which tends to diminish the difference between people, he added.
The former Professor of Jain University, M. N Panini said that status of Dalits has not been changed drastically even after independence. The so called ‘progress’ masqueraded the problem of Dalits in a way it forced dalits not to believe in their reality. He observed the so called development on one side and increasing atrocities are reported in developed states like Tamil nadu, Haryana, Panjab and others. Though dalit communities overcome heavy odds to make a mark in development, they failed to construct their own identity among other communities.

Further, he by illustrating Gayathri Spivok’s famous phrase, “Can subaltern Speak?”, he said, their silent itself is a protest against exploitation meted by Upper class Hindus over the centuries. He continued adding, it is the conflict among the ‘rights’ and ‘lefts’ hitting fatally to the actual need of reservation. In order to overcome all these complex odds, they need to be reunited under their ‘own cast identity’, he suggested.

Chief guest Dr. Vasudev Belle said that it is the right time to reconstruct Ambedkarism in accordance with the complex crisis created by the modernism and rising of anti progressive power. He argued that we have to dwell into our tradition and bring the best part of it which effectively holds our salient ‘identity’.

Prof. Yadapadithaya, the Registrar of Mangalore University reiterated the need of Ambedkarean thoughts for the contemporary developments.   Remarking the Presidential speech, Prof. Bhyrappa said that upper caste Hindus by introspecting themselves should take part in social justice.
Programme was narrated by Lingaraju K. While Rukhmaiah welcomed the guests, Anil introduced the guests to the audience. Deepak proposed vote of thanks.
