People of Sullia join hands to revolt against Kasturi Rangan report

Sullia: The administration is trying to spread terror in the name of development and environment in villages. The officers are themselves acting as naxals. Kasturi Rangan report gives importance to animals more than human said Kishore Shirady, President of Malenadu Janahita Rakshana Vedike.

He was speaking in the protest rally on Tuesday December 30 in front of taluk office in Sullia. He also said, we are not cowards to commit suicide. We will do anything and even ready to be hanged for our existence and warned government to wake up before the protest takes evil turn.

President of Malenadu janti kriya samiti, Pradeep Kumar K.L said, after huge independence fight farmers have again gathered together to revolt against the Kasturi Rangan report. The day is not far when there will be a demand for separate state to save Malenad.

JDS leader Madhava Gowda, BJP leader AV Teertharama, farmer leader Durgadas Mallara, district municipal member KS Devaraj and many others were present.

Marriage called off as bride disappeared hours before the function

Sullia: Everything was set for a perfect marriage. The groom was looking handsome in his wedding dress. But news that came from bride’s house shocked the family of bride groom. Dr. Deviprasad from Aivattoklu Doddamane in Panja of Sullia taluk who runs a clinic in Kadaba was to get married to Dr.Krupa hailing from Kalige in Bilinele village near Kadaba, serving as a doctor in Bengaluru, in the Panchalingeshwara temple hall in Panja on Monday December 29.

The mehndi function was held in bride’s house on Saturday night. But bride's family members woke up on Sunday morning and shocked to learn that bride was not in the house. After searching for her in the locality the family members informed the matter to the bridegroom.

It is gathered that Dr Krupa had fallen in love with a Bengaluru-based doctor who was her colleague when she was working in Bengaluru. It is suspected that she has eloped with him.

The bride's father has filed a missing complaint in Kadaba station. On the other hand, the family of the groom has filed a cheating complaint against the family of the bride. As the wedding function got called off at the last minute, food items that were prepared for approximately 2,000 guests were distributed to students of different schools in the area.

Statue of Kurunji Venkatramana Gowda unveiled in Sullia

Sullia: Union law minister DV Sadananda Gowda unveiled the 6.5 feet tall statue of Kurunji Venkatramana Gowda, the founder President of Sullia Academy of Liberal education on Friday December 26. The statue was created by employees, former employees and old students of the KVG educational institution.

Speaking on the occasion Gowda said, dreaming is very easy but making it come true for the sake of well being of the society is difficult. KVG was successful in achieving this task. His achievements are commendable.

DK Shivakumar state energy minister inaugurated the function. He described Kurunji as the power of Karnataka and said only education and intelligence is not enough for the development of the society it also needs consciousness.

President of Academy of Liberal Education, Dr. KV Chidananda presided over the program. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA S. Angara, vice chancellor of Mangaluru University K.K Bhairappa and many others were present.

Late night party: Four persons arrested

Sullia: Police have arrested four persons for allegedly involving in a late night dance party in a private finance office.

The accused were indulging in a late night dance party with loud speakers in Samrudhi Jeevan office in Shri Hari complex on Thursday night. The police who were patrolling in the area raided the spot and arrested Somashekar, Shashikumar, Somashekar and Raghavendra. They were booked under disturbing the peace of the society case. They were released after warning.

Van-bike collision: Rider seriously injured

Sullia: A van and a bike collided in Akkojipal near Chokkady in Sullia. Bike rider has been seriously injured in the incident.

The injured has been identified as former director of APMC Chandra Poojary.  He sustained injuries on his hand and legs. He has been admitted to the hospital. A case has been lodged in police station.

Minor arrested for sexually assaulting girl

Sullia: A minor boy was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a girl and caste abuse. The boy was sent to remand home.

The incident happened near Goonadka in the evening. The girl was on her way to home after school when the accused boy approached her tried to sexually assault her. Police lodged a case as per the complaint given by victim’s mother.

Never ending elephant menace in Mandekolu: Valuable crops destroyed

Sullia: The wild elephants have destroyed the crops in the border region of Mandekolu. The elephants which had returned to the woods after creating havoc in the region few days back have again surfaced and made people get into tizzy.

The elephants which entered the plantation of Krishnaprasad near Mandekolu temple on Saturday and Sunday nights and destroyed areca, coconut, rubber and banana trees. The group consists of five elephants and they have taken shelter in Mandekolu. Few days ago these elephants were being chased out of the village by crossing the Payaswini river. But the wild elephants have managed to cross the river and visited the village once again.

woman kills herself by hanging to a mango tree

Sullia: A woman committed suicide by hanging herself in Kukkundur colony in Jalsur here on Monday November 17.

The deceased woman has been identified as Kalimutthu. She had hung herself to a mango tree nearby her house. Neighbours noticed this and informed the police. The body was sent to Sullia government hospital for post mortem. A case has been filed at Sullia police station.
