Nagasaki marks 70th anniversary of atomic bombing

Nagasaki: A ceremony is underway Sunday morning in Nagasaki to mark the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombing of the southern Japanese city.

Survivors, guests from 75 countries and others are gathered under a tall white canopy to shade them from the sun at the annual commemoration at Nagasaki Peace Park.

As a bell tolled, they observed a minute of silence at 11:02 a.m., the time when the U.S. dropped the atomic bomb, killing more than 70,000 people and prompting Japan's World War II surrender. The first atomic bomb in Hiroshima three days earlier killed 140,000.

The city's mayor was expected to renew his call for a world without nuclear weapons.

12th anniversary of Al Ain Kannada Sangha celebrated with gaiety

Dubai: 12th anniversary of Al Ain Kannada Sangha was celebrated at garden city Al Ain famously known as Lalbagh of UAE on Friday May 1 in Al Ain Hilton hotel hall.

Former president of Sharjah Karnataka Sangha B.K Ganeesh Rai, Mrs. Manjula Ganesh Rai, businessman Kiran Paduval and managing director of Al Ain school, Arshad and Mrs. Tanveer Arshad were present as chief guests.
President of Al Ain Karnataka Sangha Madhusudhan welcomed the gathering. The program was inaugurated by lighting the lamp. All the office bearers were present wearing typical Kannadiga style clothes. Women and men sung the welcome song and Ku. Sarvamangala and Ku. Prateeksha performed the welcome dance.

The Mysuru Vaibhava:

The background picture of illuminated Mysuru palace enhanced the beauty of the stage. The Mysuru Vaibhava program performed by former presidents and office bearers depicted the grand tradition of Kannada land.  Digital photos of Goddess Chamundeshwari, King Jayachamarajendra Odeyar, Tippu Sultan, Pitilu Choudayya, Sir. M. Vishweshwarayya, Veene Sheshanna, Kuvempu and many others were displayed on the screen. The Kannada shloka reading by small children was mind blowing. Master Yashas, Vismaya, Shreyas, Prateeksha, Sarvamangala, Anushka, Siddharth and Ryan performed the group dance.  

Felicitation ceremony:

The chief guests were felicitated by office bearers of the association. On this occasion children with highest marks were honoured with their parents. Skeikh Hamdan award, the prestigious award of UAE winner Baby Manasvi and her parents were honoured on this occasion.

Philanthropist honoured:

Dr. Mookayya Veerayya Swami Kalasurumutt, the former president of Al Ain Kannada Sangha had adopted a government school in his birth place and developed it by spending more than one crore and made it one of the model schools in the state. He was honoure for his noble deed by all members of Al Ain Kannada Sangha.

Quiz competition and Anthyakshari games were organized for the audience. Shalini and Kamini hosted the program. Everybody enjoyed the day long program and went home with a big smile on their faces.

9th anniversary of Ganiga Samaja UAE organized in Bur Dubai

Dubai: Ganiga Samaja UAE organized its spectacular 9th anniversary on Friday 24th April 2015 at Fortune Grand Hotel Bur Dubai.  Over a 100 Ganiga’s were present from various parts of UAE for the event.

Mr. Raghavendra Ganiga started the program by inviting the Ganiga Samaja UAE Founder, President and Vice President on Dias.  The event was organized by the committee members with all dedication, hard work and unity which were then followed by the approval and consent of the main board members of Ganiga Samaj.

The ganiga members present on this occasion enjoyed each and every event which itself is a success.

 The day started off with a devotional song  sung by Geeta Radhakrishna Shetty, Veena Suresh, Chethna Sumanth, Aarthi Harish Shetty and Mamtha Shetty followed by lighting of the lamp by the President and the Managing Committee members.  Inaugurating the function - President  Mr. Suresh Ganiga, Mr. Satheesh Venkatramana (founder), Mr Dayananada Rao (Vice President), Mr. Arun Ganiga(Vice President) welcomed all the guests, members and their families to the function. The President and the committee members honored prominent members of others associations who were the guest for the day, introducing our another honorable guest Mr. Shashidar Nagaraj  from our community he runs free kannada classes for children at JSS school , Dubai , our Samaja members welcomed him with flower bouquets and appreciated that he attended the function with his family members.

Mr. Raghavendra Ganiga Welcomed all of them and Mrs. Geetha Radha Krishna Shetty introduced our Dignitaries to all present there.

Drawing Competition was held for kids based on their age categories, for which all kids of the Samaja participated with keen enthusiasium it was conducted under the supervision of Mrs. Nisha Sachin, Mrs. Divya Prasanna, Mrs. Chethna and Mrs. Anusha Raghavendra. The winners were chosen by Mrs. Mamtha Satheesh.

On finishing the above there was a scrumptious lunch for all our members followed by entertaining performances and activities which were loved by one and all present for the program and one of our success factors too.

 Dance numbers started with Niriksha , Rithika, Manya, Tanisha, Diya which left a smile on everyone’s faces and an energetic dance performance by SPM Group (Sachin, Prasanna, Manoj) on a fusion mix of hindi and kannada film songs kept everyone swaying, claping and wishing to see more.

Songs were sung by Mr. Dinesh and Mrs. Swathi Prasanth made everyone's head waving to their melodious voice. Followed by children (Dishitha, Cheethu, Chirag and Kushal) singing with innocence which brought an inner peace for all keeping apart the routine of our busy scheduled life.

Another remarkable performance by Pavan Charanlal he sang and played Guitar for this program which is memorable.

All the winners were awarded with prizes and certificates along with Chilly Willy gift hamper and all the participants were appreciated with participation certificates which would give them and encouraging platform to perform much better every year.

Games were held for kids and couples which was played with full of enjoyment and excitement.

Our hearty thanks to Mr. Sohan Brahmavar as he took care of all the songs that needed to be played on time and also to our Photography which were taken care by Mr. Pradeep, Mr. Manoj, Mr. Harish, Ms. Nathasha & Ms. Niriksha.

Self introductory speeches were given by new and old members of samaja who attended the function this year.

The program concluded by lucky dip for all members to participate and to try their luck the lucky prizes were 32”inch Samsung LED TV and Samsung Mobile phone the winners were Mrs.Anusha Raghavendra and Mr. Subhash Salian.

Finally concluding the Get-Together the Vote of gratitude speech was given by Mr. Raghavendra, followed by founder Mr. Satheesh Venkataramana and by the President Mr. Suresh Ganiga– Thanking each and every Ganiga’s for attending the get together making it memorable also defined on the future events that will be held this year and in the coming years.

36th anniversary of Veerakesari Kalavrunda

Mumbai:  Veerakesari Kalavrunda celebrated its 36th anniversary on 28 March at Vishweshwarayya Hall. The program was presided over by Ramesh Shetty Payyar.

He said that the association has serving cultural, educational and religious activities without striving for publicity since three decades.

Chief guest Subhash Shetty said that one has to think about the issue that artists are not recognized and honoured at their native places.

Renowned Konkani actor, Kamalaksha Saraf, also the guest of the program praised the achievements of the association.

Om Shakthi  women’s Association president Chitra R Shetty, Tulu- Kannada Welfare Association president A.K.Harish  and Business tycoon Dayananda Poojari shared their feelings with the gathering.

Vice president of Kalavrunda Gunakar Shetty, Honorary CS Ramesh Shivapura, Treasurer Navin Gulibettu, Shyamraj Shetty and Usha Suvarna were present at the dias.

Enterprenuer Padmanabha Payyade, President of Kulal Sangh P.K.Salian, Theater Fine Arts founder V.K.Suvarna, Meena Kalavar were felicitated.

Ms. Pratiksha Poojari, Ashwini Poojari, Master Pritvi Hegde and Harsha Hegde were hounoured.

Tulu drama ‘Yeregad’, written and directed by Ramesh Shivapura entertained the gathering.

Woman can achieve anything if she determines

Bantwal: Women go hand to hand with men in today’s society. A woman can achieve anything if she wants said Vasanti Chandappa, President of Bantwal Purasabha.

She was speaking in the program of special edition release and readers conference on the eve of 15th anniversary celebration of monthly magazine Anupama.

May news papers and magazines are born daily aiming at money making. But Anupama is a magazine which is headed by women and is liked by the people of every level and has proved to be the voice of people. The work of the Anupama is appreciable.  The magazine is by its own way helping to increase the respect of women in the society without crossing the moral limits.

The program was presided over by sub editor of Anupama Sabeeha Fatima. Speaking on the occasion she said, the women have the great responsibility of serving the family, children, husband and along with that creating a strong society. Every woman must understand this.

Ayisha Panemangaluru, Jyothirathna and Noushiya were selected as the ‘Anupama lucky woman’. Bantwal purasabha member Jesintha D’Souza, Zeenath Hasan, Saleem Panemangaluru were present.

Huge blood donation camp at Gangolli

Gangolli: A huge blood donation camp was organised at Shri Vijaya Vittala Mantapa in Gangolli on Wednesday February 18 organised on the eve of 31 anniversary of Shri Gurujyothi Sports Club in association with blood bank of Udupi district hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Nrasimha Swamiji of Hangarakatte Shri Balekudru mutt said, there are so many organisations in the society. But very few of them indulge in social welfare activities. Shri Gurujyothi Sports club by organising blood donation camps has set a model before other organisations.

There is a close relation between the mutt and Gangolli. Every single activity in this region comes to the notice of the mutt. The people here have developed an intimate relation with the mutt, he added.

Eddeduppuga-Yet another laughter riot from Gammath Kalavider

Dubai: Gammath Kalavider UAE, an amateur Tulu Stage play troupe after a huge success with their previous Tulu plays is once again coming up with yet another Tulu comedy and social stage play “ Eddeduppuga”  written By G Krishna Manjeshwara of  Sharada Kala Arts Manjeshwara, which will be staged  on February  13, 2015, at the Emirates Theatre, Sheikh Zayed road to mark the fourth anniversary of Gammath Kalavider UAE. 

 Towards the gesture of  commitment   for  the society, this year  also  the  Gammath Kalavider will be  donating   the surplus  collection   received  from the drama  to “Spandana”  a home of  rehabilitation centre  for mentally  challenged  adults  in Udupi district , which is a continuous  service from past  three years by the Gammath Kalavider.

“ Eddeduppuga”  will  be directed by  Vishwanath Shetty , Dubai   and  Music  will be  provided  by  Vishwanath Shetty  Nelyadi.  The  Organisation has requested support and co-operation from the sponsors and tulu drama lovers for success of the upcoming drama.

Birth anniversary of Swamy Vivekananda celebrated by Congress

Mangaluru:  152nd birth anniversary of Swamy Vivekananda was organised by district block congress. The programme was held in the party office near Jepppu Market here.

Member of legislative assembly Ivan D’Souza garlanded the photo of Swammy Vivekananda. Speaking on the occasion Ivan said, youngsters are needed to be taught about the principles of Swamy Vivekananda. Youths must wake up towards building a strong nation.
