Good news for Arecanut lovers: can be used as mouth fresheners

Mangaluru: Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd. (CAMPCO) has begun efforts to send 10 tonnes of tender arecanut to China by this year-end on trial basis for making mouth freshener, according to its president Konkodi Padmanabha.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday he said that a delegation of Kou Wei Wang Company, which manufactures mouth freshener from tender arecanut, has arrived on a second visit to the State. The delegation met CAMPCO authorities on Saturday and has placed demand for 32,000 quintals of processed (boiled and then dried) tender arecaut. The delegation was now on a two-week tour of arecanut growing districts in the State.

Mr. Padmanabha said that the company used only husk of tender arecanut for making tender arecanut. Later it threw the nut which was not being made use of for any product.

The company has offered to pay Rs. 160 per kg of processed tender arecanut.

Campco meeting held under the presidentship of Konkody Padmanabh

Karkala: The central finance ministry has hiked the import duty on arecanut from Rs 110 to Rs 162. This will benefit the farmers said president of Campco Konkody Padmanabh.

He was speaking in the arecanut growers meeting at APMC. He further said that Campco is helping in the stabilization of the areca rates.

Speaking on the behalf of the growers Vasudeva Nambiyar said, quality copper sulphate should be given by Campco, the incentive given to the arecanut should be hiked from Rs. 1.50. Areca board should be built.

Answering his questions President said, the copper sulphate is supplied to the farmers buying it through tender. Every tenth bag is checked in the lab and then it is distributed to the buyers. He further said that incentive cannot be given more than 10% as per baila. So far Rs. 6 crore has been kept for incentives and Rs. 6 crore towards the workers out of Rs. 60 crore.

Mega fair on ‘Krishi Yantra’ will commence from 24 to 26th Jan.

Mangaluru: A mega fair of machines used in irrigation will be conducted by Campco industries and Vivekananda College of Engineering will commence from 24th of Jan.

President of Campco Industries, Konkodi Padmanbh briefed to the reporters in a press meet that the fair will be held at Vivekananda College premises at Putturu. More than 240 shops will be established which will be 1.5 k.m.long.

Conferences for farmers and parliament sessions from the MP’s belonging from farming area would be held.

Envolopes with Varanasi Subraya Bhat photo will be released on the same day. Also scientist, who is inventing new methods in Bodo liquid manufacturing, will be given help through Campco.
