Need to save `Chikli hole’ from bad travellers

Kodagu, the land of river Cauvery.  It is considered as the Kashmir of South India, the land of soldiers and the haven of fresh clean environment. Beauty of Kodagu attracts travellers not only from India but also from abroad. Chikli Hole is among the hundreds of travel destinations in Kodagu. The Chikli hole (river) flows in `U’ shape during rainy season and attracts people towards it. But this treasure of nature is under threat due to human interference.

Pedestrians have to close their nose as foul smell emanates on the road which leads to Chikli hole. People throw chicken wastages beside this road which poses danger to the health of the local people. Crows and eagles continuously fly on the sky above this region.

Shattered liquor bottles:

Youth who come here for pleasure and spend good time have destroyed the beauty of this place. They break liquor bottles and dump it near the lake and even throw into the lake.

 Absent security:

Even though security has been deployed near Chikli hole by Cauvery committee it has remained just for name and salary sake. The security guard here makes money by threatening travellers and even parties with them.

Blind folded representatives:

Chikli hole is the water source for around two thousand acres of agricultural land. Officers pose in front of media cameras during rainy season while releasing water to the cannels. They then disappear only to appear when a minister visits the place. They don’t pay heed to the problems of this region.

This is the time for people’s representatives and officers to open up their eyes and minds to see and think about the problem that is eating Chikli hole. If they still maintain distance and avoid reacting to the problem this scenic beauty of nature, the water source of the farmers will extinct in no time.
