Run over, Delhi youth bleeds to death unattended

NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old youth was mowed down by a car at Kasturba Nagar crossing near Vivek Vihar in east Delhi on Monday night. CCTV footage showed the youth getting knocked down from his scooter by a Maruti Ritz which dragged him for 50 metres.

The impact of the collision was such that the scooter skidded on the road and then bounced off the traffic signal. The victim, Vinay Jindal, was a BBA student of Indraprastha University and was returning home on his cousin's scooter. The incident took place at 11.30pm, on the eve of his sister's wedding. His father is a businessman and stays in A-Block of Vivek Vihar. The wedding was finally called off.

The CCTV footage showed Jindal taking a right turn on a black scooter when the Ritz hit it. The impact threw him on the road after which he was dragged along with the car for 50 metres.

The car driver stopped for a brief moment to look at the lifeless youth before speeding away. People then gathered around but nobody touched him for over eight minutes till a PCR van arrived.

Family members said that the youth was taken to a private hospital 100 metres away where he was declared very critical. Cops recovered an identity card from his pocket and informed his cousin, Mohit Gupta. By the time the family reached the hospital, Jindal was declared dead.

"An FIR under IPC sections of rash driving (279) and causing death due to negligence (304A IPC) has been lodged," said a police officer.

The car, with a UP registration number, also hit another scooter a little ahead in which a couple and their children were injured. Police are trying to track the driver and the case has been transferred to the motor accidents claims tribunal.

Tempo-auto collide head on at Mulky

Mulky: A fish laden tempo and an auto rickshaw collided head on at Sampida Kubevuru on the wee hours of Tuesday June 2.

The passenger in the auto sustained injuries and was admitted to a local private hospital.

Police arrived at the spot and inspected. A case has been filed in this regard.

Injured person in road accident dies

Mangaluru: Antony Gilbert Ronald Roche (51) a resident of Sirlapadpu in Kulshekar who was injured in a scooter-bus collission died in the hospital.

Antony was returning from Hampankatta on Saturday, May 23 when a private city bus which was moving behind him hit his scooter from behind near Canara Bank Balmatta. He was thrown on the road and sustained serious injuries.  He was rushed to the hospital immediately. But succumbed to his injuries later at night.

Vehicle crushes peacock in Gujjady

Kundapur: A peacock was found dead on the road near Gujjady check post near Gangolli on Wednesday May 20.

Locals said an unidentified vehicle crushed the bird under its tyre. Locals immediately rushed to the spot and tried to rescue the bird by giving some water. But seriously injured bird succumbed to its injuries.

Later locals informed the matter to the forest officials who came to the spot and buried the bird.

Pedestrian injured as lorry knocks him down

Udupi: A pedestrian fractured his right arm as a lorry hit him near Ucchila bus stand here on Wednesday May 13.

The injured person has been identified as Timmayya, hailing from Telangana. He was standing near the bus stand when a lorry speeding from Udupi to Padubidri knocked him down. Timmayya was thrown on the road and sustained gruesome injuries. The accident resulted in fracturing the bone of his right arm.

A case has been filed in Padubidri police station.

Bus knocks down pedestrian

Ullala: A person sustained gruesome injuries as a bus knocks him down in front of Vinamra bar in Tokkottu on Monday May 11.

The injured person is Somanath (36) a resident of Laxmigudde in Pilar here.

Somanath was on his way to work when a bus moving from  Netthilapadav to Mangaluru knocked him down. Somanath was thrown on the road and was badly injured. He was rushed to the Wenlock hospital in Mangaluru. A case has been filed in Ullala police station.

Thunder storm creates chaos in Kundapur

Kundapur: Thunder storms struck in various parts of Kundapur in the wee hours of Tuesday March 31 creating many catastrophes in the region. Four persons including children were being hospitalized as they were hit by lightning.  

The lightning struck into the house of Panju Naika in Konjavalli in Kodlady village injuring his mother Gouri, wife Revathy and children Prithvi and Deepthi. They were admitted to Shri Devi hospital in Kundapur.

The one year old house completely damaged in the incident. The electric appliances and other items inside the house were completely charred in the incident. In another incident two cattle in the shed of Gouri Poojarthi died due to lightning.

Elderly man sustain injuries as wall collapse on him

Karkala: An elderly man was seriously injured as a wall collapsed on him. The incident happened in Hiriyangadi here on Monday March 2.

The injured person has been identified as Parshwanath Indra alias Mantapa Indra (80). The wall along with the door of the bathroom collapsed on his as he tried to close the door after having shower.  

The elderly man sustained severe injuries below the waist and the flesh has come out from the feet. He was admitted to Wenlock hospital in Mangaluru.

Indra was serving as a priest in Guru Basadi in Hiriyangadi and was retired from his job few years ago following health issues.
