Ranji Trophy: Karnataka in drivers’ seat against Assam

Karnataka placed themselves in the drivers’ seat as they piled on a huge 452 all out in their first innings before reducing Assam to 58 for three on the second day of their Ranji Trophy cricket quarterfinal match in Indore on Tuesday.

Resuming the day at 302 for 2, Karnataka added 150 runs in 54.2 overs today before they were all out for 452 in their first innings. Opener Robin Uthappa had scored 153 yesterday to lay the foundation of a strong total.

One-down Ravikumar Samarth could add just seven runs to their overnight 39 while Manish Pandey contributed 36.

Wicketkeeper Chidhambaram Gautam scored 44 not out while Shreyas Gopal made 38 lower down the order.

For Assam, Krishna Das was the most successful bowler with figures of 4/101.

In their reply, three Assam top-order batsmen were out cheaply as they ended the day at 58 for 3 in 27 overs. Openers Pallavkumar Das and Sibsankar Roy were out for 11 and 16 respectively while captain Dheeraj Jadhav could only contribute 3.

At the draw of stumps, Gokul Sharma and wicketkeeper Arun Karthik were batting on 18 and 5 respectively.

For Karnataka, Shreyas Gopal took two wickets for six runs while Sreenath Aravind got one.

Assam now trail by 394 runs with seven first innings wickets remaining.

Ranji Trophy: Punjab take 1st Innings lead against Delhi


Patiala: Punjab lost their last five wickets for 20 runs but did enough to take first innings lead against Delhi in their final Ranji Trophy encounter, here.

Punjab finished their first innings on 263 in reply to Delhi's 249 thereby getting a first innings lead of 14 runs.

However, Delhi were 48 for no loss in their second innings with an overall lead of 34 runs. However Punjab needs an outright win to qualify after losing their last game to Odisha and for that need to keep Delhi under check in the second innings.

Punjab were comfortably placed at 243 for five before the collapse started and the home team lost five wickets for 20 runs in exactly eight overs.

For Punjab Mandeep Singh (82) was the top-scorer while Gurkeerat Singh Mann (57) and Himanshu Chawla (50) also made useful contributions.

Left-arm spin duo of Varun Sood (4/73) and Manan Sharma (3/51) shared seven scalps amongst them while off-spinner Shivam Sharma got two for 26.

Ranji Trophy 3rd day: Karnataka concede first innings lead

Mysuru: Baroda bowled out Karnataka for 302 and secured a 33 runs lead on the third day. They then stretched it to 237 at close of play.

Arvind raised the hopes of an early closure to their second innings when he got  Saurabh Wakaskar for zero in the very first ball of the innings and a little later Kedar Devdhar too for zero.

Aditya Waghmode, Hardik Pandya, Deepak Hooda, Yusuf Pathan batted well to defend and increase their lead but again Arvind and Karun Nair managed to take wickets of set batsmen.
