Gold biscuits worth Rs. 15 lakh seized in MIA

Mangaluru: Customs officers have seized

Five gold biscuits weighing 583.300 gms worth Rs. 15,25,330 from a passenger in Mangaluru International airport.

The passenger named Abdul Khader a resident of Kasargod district had concealed the gold bars under seat number 23F of Jet Airways flight 9W531 in which he had travelled from Dubai to Mangaluru.

Cattle skin seized in Koni: Accused at large

Kundapur: The police here have seized a Maruti Omni van which was transporting cattle skin on Tuesday March 10.

Police sources said that the occupants of Omni car had neglected the signal from the police to stop the vehicle and sped away. The car was later found near a forest region in Koni. The occupants of the car had fled away.

While checking police found 48 animal pelts in whole including their horns had been stacked behind the driver's seat, and a tarpaulin was placed over the stack. It is suspected that the concerned had stolen cattle from some place, and had separated their hides from the flesh and bones.

Value of the vehicle and pelts has been put at Rs 2.5 lac. The accused who fled the scene have been identified as Jabbar from Kody and Nassir from Kandlur in the taluk.

Gold biscuits worth Rs 57 lakh seized from two Rameswaram fishermen

MADURAI: Customs officials seized 2.3 kilogram of gold from two fishermen in Rameswaram on Sunday.

The officials raided the homes of Murugavel and Danistan in Dhanushkodi and seized gold biscuits worth Rs 57 lakh.

Smuggling of gold through the sea route has been on the rise in the recent times and customs and the Q branch of the Tamil Nadu police have intensified patrolling along the coast.

Fishermen in the region receive gold being smuggled from Sri Lanka and hand it over to the smugglers in the country.

18,000 Goa liquor seized in Karkala

Udupi: Excise inspector Seema Maria Suvaris and her team have seized 18 thousand litres of Goa liquor illegally stored for sale in Kattimar road in Karkala. One Arun Kumar from Karkala has been arrested in connection with the case.
 
The value of seized liquor is estimated as Rs.12,000. Joint commissioner of Mangaluru Excise department Rajendra Prasad and Udupi district commissioner George Pinto lead the team to nab the accused.

Illegally accumulated 55 loads of sand seized

Mulky: Geosciences and mining department officials have confiscated 55 loads of sand on Saturday evening November 8 in Koppala near Haleangady.

Samshuddin son of Hasanabba had hoarded sand on the private land of Smt. Vijayalaxmi near Koppala railway track. The sands were collected from Kuloor and Gurupur river.

The raid was conducted by Murthy B.K along with Mulky special tahshildar A.J Kheni as per the complaints received by  the officers of the department.

Police raid gambling spot: Cash, other items seized

Belthangady: Bantwal ASP Rahul Kumar raided the gambling site at Nidle resort and arrested 25 people. Police also seized 9 vehicles, 13 mobiles and Rs. 11 lakh from the accused.

The arrested are indentified as Mahesh Belthangady, Dejappa of Charmadi, Belthangady, Mohammed of Padangady, Abdul Razak, Suresh Poojary of Malady, Mitthabagilu Vasantha, Ibrahim, Umar Kunhi of Kuvettu, Suresh of Kanyadi, Thotathady Sunil Kumar, John Thomas of Neriya, Dayanand of Nada, Ismail resident of Valachil, Mangalore, Lokanath, resident of Pandavara Kallu in Bantwal, Gopal Poojary of Kadekkar, Shabbir Puda, Biliyur Abubaquer, Shibu Varghese of Nelyadi, Adam of Kaukrady, Kuberappa, resident of Huvinadu in Chitradurga, Manjunath of Hattinagadde, B. Manjunath of Mangalapura, Manjunath, native of Moodigiri in Tumkur, S. Manjunath of Sira and Nagaraj.

Acting on confirmed information newly appointed ASP Rahul Kumar raided the resort on the late night of Saturday. They had arrested 25 people who were involved in gambling and seized Rs. 11,29,860 cash, 1 bike, 1 Auto, 7 cars, 13 mobiles, 16 bottles of whisky and 22 bottles of beer. A case has been filed at Uppinangady police station.
