Bannanje Raja brought to Belagavi, in police custody till Aug 28

Bengaluru: A special team of Karnataka police on Friday brought underworld don Bannanje Raja from Morocco, scripting an end to the 18 years of challenges posed by the fugitive and his men.

For the first time in the history of Karnataka, the police have successfully brought a criminal who was operating from outside India. Raja, wanted in over 44 cases, including extortions, murders and attempts to murders, has been booked under the stringent Karnataka Organised Crime (prevention) Act (KCOCA) in the murder of R N Nayak, a businessman from Ankola in Uttara Kannada district, in 2013.

A special team consisting of Additional Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru City, Prathap Reddy, Udupi Superintendent of Police Annamalai and others, which had left for Morocco on August 10, arrived at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, from New Delhi at 3.50 pm. Raja was taken to the office of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) to complete some formalities.

He was flown to Belagavi in the evening and produced before a special court. Judge P Krishna Bhat remanded him in police custody till August 28, sources said.

‘Suffering from diabetes’
Sources further said that Raja told the judge that he was suffering from diabetes and spondylitis. He also demanded that he be kept in a separate cell and not with other inmates. Judge Bhat directed the police to continue his treatment and told Raja not to dictate terms.

The police team held meetings at Indian embassies in Rabat, Morocco, and Paris besides taking the help of Interpol to take Raja into custody. “We will interrogate him about his involvement in various crimes. The interrogation will take place at an undisclosed location considering threats to his life from rival gangs,” DG&IGP Omprakash said.

Raja had committed a slew of crimes in Karnataka through his associates. The Intelligence Bureau has submitted a report that Raja’s associates have hatched a conspiracy to kill him as they think he would disclose their names during the interrogation.

Raja’s wife Sona, who lives in Dubai, is likely to arrive in Karnataka. Police believe that Sona possesses a fake passport and they are likely to arrest her as soon as she lands in India.

Raja was arrested by the police in Morocco on February 6. The Moroccan Supreme Court ordered the local police on August 6 to hand him over to India. The Interpol had issued a red corner notice on him in 2010.

Are you really patriot? Ask this question for yourself

Wait for a moment and just think, why is it so much difficult to love our own country? quite unusual question isn't it?

Our youth tie the tricolour on their vehicles, patriotic songs are set as mobile ringtones, even callertunes change vande matharam or raghupati raghava rajaram, screen savers, wall papers everything is painted with the colors of patriotism. Then how one can say that we dont love our country? or we just dont care about it?

Patriotism cannot be measured by one particualar quality or work. When we succeed in answering the question asked below in affirtmative, then only one can be called as a real patriot.

Do you drug?

If your answer for this question is 'yes' then, sorry... you are not a patriot. India needs capable, strong and passionate youth. If you are addicted to drug, your heat may be filled with patriotism, but that is of no use for the country. You cannot even give 2% of your creativity to this country as ebriety wont spare you your strength for that purpose.

Do you respect women?

If this question makes you think, then you have ask youself do you realy love your country? You while with your friends pass lewd comments about women. Play with their emotions. You think girls are created by God to have fun with you. You abuse girls in bus and other places, then you are not even deserve to live in this coutry. Then how can you love your country?

Patritosm, just for the show off ha sno place in this country. This land of sages has a rich culture of respecting the women. If you in any way disrespect women then you are not a true patriot.

Do you litter?

This question is not difficult to answer. We indians dont have the sense of cleanliness at all. Be it swacch Bharat or any other project regarding cleanliness we think that is not for us. We are all clean. But in reality we are the one who throw garbages on the road, in open places and everywhere. We after chewing mouthfull of pan masala while travelling in a bus or a private car, throw empty packets of cigarrettes, pan masalas, bottles of soft drinks etc on the road. We enjoy throwing garbages into neighbouring compounds. By doing so we are making this country look ugly. Then how can we say that we love this country?

Do you take or give bribe?

If you do not hesitate to bribe someone to get your work done or take bribe to get some work done, then you have lost the right to be a true citizen of this country. Corruption is the root cause of all wrong happenings. Greed is the mother of corruption. If you in any way involed in corruption then no matter how much you shout the slogans of patriotism, you are nothing but a traitor.

Are you communal?

If yes, then sorry you are ruining the harmony of this country. Comunalism and patriotism are two different things. If you are communal then you cannot be a patriot, because India is a secular country and one needs to be secular first to be a nation lover. Love your religion and respect other religions is the principle of secularism. If you dont follow this principle then you are not secular, then you are not patriot.

By shouting slogans like 'I love My India', 'Saare jahan se Accha' one cannot become patriot. The love towards your country has to reflex in your behaviour, work and attitude towards others.

On this Independence day lets evaluate our habits and behaviours and lets try to be good human being first, to become a proud citizen of India.

Dayanidhi Maran faces arrest after Madras HC cancels interim bail

Former Union telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran faces arrest as the Madras high court on Monday cancelled his interim bail in the illegal telephone exchange case after the CBI said he was not cooperating in the investigation.

The court directed the former DMK minister to surrender before the CBI within three days.

“Failing which, the CBI is at liberty to take action in accordance with law,” said Justice S Vaidhyananthan, quashing Maran’s appeal to the court to turn the interim bail into a permanent one.

The CBI has registered an FIR against Maran alleging that more than 300 high-speed telephone lines were set up at his Chennai residence when he was telecom minister from 2004-07 and these were extended to his brother Kalanithi Maran’s SUN TV channel. In the process, the exchequer lost an estimated R1.8 crore, the case papers say.

Fearing arrest, Maran sought anticipatory bail on June 30 and it was for six weeks on the condition that he appeared before the CBI on July 1 and cooperated with the investigators.

The CBI, which questioned Maran in Delhi for alleged misuse of authority as Union minister, told the Madras high court that he was not cooperating and was evasive in his responses to questions.

Sources close to the former minister said his lawyers were exploring options of seeking reprieve from the Supreme Court.

Maran had earlier alleged that the CBI was trying to malign him.
