Audiences have been eagerly awaiting the release of R. Balki’s ‘Shamitabh’ starring megastar Amitabh Bachchan, the talented Dhanush and newbie Akshara Haasan, who is the daughter of actor Kamal Haasan. The film has Big B playing an industry veteran with an alcohol problem and promises to be an interesting watch. Here are five reasons, why we think Shamitabh is a must watch this Friday (February 6).
1) Amitabh Bachchan and R. Balki: Expectations from this incredible duo is sky-high. Whenever R. Balki and Amitabh Bachchan work together, it is nothing short of fireworks. The duo had in the past teamed up to give us some masterpieces including – ‘Cheeni Kum’ and ‘Paa’, which also starred Abhishek Bachchan. The director always seems to bring out the best in Bachchan Senior.
2) Big B/Dhanush/Akshara: No doubt, ‘Shamitabh’ has somewhat of an unconventional cast and that is what makes it even more interesting. We will Amitabh Bachchan in a whole different avatar in the film. Meanwhile, Dhanush, who is the son-in-law of superstar Rajinikanth, has proved his acting prowess one more than one occasion and there’s a surety that the ‘Raanjhanaa’ actor will do it once more. Kamal Haasan’s daughter Akshara will be marking her acting debut with ‘Shamitabh’. With a family in showbiz, it’ll be no surprise that acting runs in her blood. Akshara has said in all her interviews that she would strive to be herself in the industry.
3) Movie Title: Director R. Balki has a knack for picking unusual and extremely creative titles for his films. ‘Shamitabh’ is actually an interesting play of alphabets of the cast – The last two letters from Dhanush’s name, while the rest is Big B’s first name.
4) Music: Legendary maestro Illaiyaraaja who has given us quite a few favourites, has composed the music for ‘Shamitabh’. The film features beautiful numbers including ‘Sha Sha Sha Mi Mi Mi’, ‘Piddly Si Baatein’ and ‘Ishq E Fillum’ among others.
5) Intense characters: The trailer gave us a glimpse in to the film’s intense characters. But Amitabh Bachchan has said in almost all his interviews that Shamitabh is more of a fun film, which is about the ‘ego clashes.’ We have given you ample reasons to watch Shamitabh. And if you are waiting for the review then keep watching this space for our critic Shubhra Gupta’s review tomorrow.
