Dubai — The star attraction of the Arab Indo Bollywood Awards (Aiba), actor Salman Khan, was missing at the Press conference held on Thursday in Dubai to mark the beginning of the two-day extravaganza. The controversial superstar, who arrived in Dubai on Wednesday night, was not keeping well, we were told.

The Aiba kicked off with a Press conference held by Bollywood stars Parineeti Chopra, Neha Dhupia, Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor and many others.

The team of Anybody Can Dance - 2 kick-started the Aiba by talking to local media about their forthcoming film. Varun Dhawan sounded excited about his performance. “I am exciting to perform at the first ever Aiba. My act is a mix of contemporary and hip-hop and there will be some daredevil stunts.”

Bollywood director Tigmanshu Dhulia, who is part of the jury, spoke about the process of choosing the winners. “50 per cent of the voting was from the audience and 50 per cent from the jury members. Many winners were obvious, for some, we did a lot of head banging. This is the first Aiba and we want to stay as honest as we could.”

Neha Dhupia said: “I will be hosting the red carpet, trying to get up, close and personal with all the stars. I know most of the actors on a personal level and it will transcend into something better. Fashion has become such a big part of films; people are very well turned out these days on red carpet. I will try to catch actors off-guard.”

There will be a special performance by Priyanka Chopra, Parineeti Chopra, Varun Dhawan and other stars. “I feel like a Dubai resident because I come here every month. But I am coming here for the first time for work. I am performing on songs that are not mine. I hope those actors don’t come and beat me up,” Parineeti said.

The team behind Dil Dhadakne Do, comprising of Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Farhan Akhtar, Anil Kapoor and Anushka Sharma, interacted with the Press about their film, which releases worldwide in the first week of June.
