KUWAIT: A loader fell from a high place while demolishing the old Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) building in Kuwait City yesterday, killing an operator inside. Initial reports suggested that the operator was still alive when Kuwait Fire Service Directorate rescue teams were dispatched to look for him, but he was found dead according to reports that came later.

The victim could not immediately be identified, but unconfirmed reports suggested he was bedoon (stateless). An investigation was opened in the incident. Separately, an expatriate was seriously injured when he lost control of his vehicle along Wafra highway.

Security sources noted that a Kuwait Fire Service Directorate team was dispatched to the scene and managed to release the driver from the wreckage and send him to a hospital. Meanwhile, a fire broke out in a seven-floor Mahboula building, which started on the second floor.

The whole building had to be evacuated to control the fire said security sources adding that firemen rescued many building tenants, several of them suffered from smoke inhalation. Another fire broke out in four shacks at Mina Abdullah scrap yard. Firemen from Umm Al-Haiman and Mina Abdullah were dispatched to the scene where they managed to control the fire without reporting any considerable casualties.
