Bread consumption in Saudi Arabia highest in the world

MAKKAH – During the electronic inauguration of the grain silos and flour mills project in Al-Jumoom governorate Sunday by Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, emir of Makkah region on behalf of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, Abulrahman Al-Fadhli, acting minister of agriculture, said the per capita consumption of bread in the Kingdom is the highest in the world.

Al-Fadhli said that more than 2.9 million tons of flour is produced annually by the branches of the Grain Silos and Flour Mills Organization.

Abdulrahman Al-Ruwaitea, acting director general of the Grain Silos and Flour Mills Organization, said bread in the Kingdom is the cheapest and consumption is the highest in the world.

The grain silos and flour mills project in Al-Jumoom is located 18 km from Makkah. It was set up on an area of 962,700 square meters at a cost of SR819 million. It has silos for storing wheat with a capacity of 250,000 metric tons.

It has flour mills with the capacity to grind 1200 tons of wheat daily. It has silos for storing wheat ready for grinding as well as silos for storing flour with a capacity of 3600 tons and others for storing bran with a capacity of 900 tons.
