Indian woman who killed 11 month old child sentenced life imprisonment in Dubai
Dubai: A 30-year-old Indian woman working as a nanny was sentenced to life in prison for killing her British employer's 11-months-old baby girl after being denied a leave. The nanny, identified only with her initials R T, strangled the infant with her scarf in the absence of her employers. She was convicted of premeditated murder by the Court of First Instance, Gulf News reported. She earlier denied the charge in court and claimed she had just put the baby in bed on January 18.

"I did not kill that baby, whom I loved like my own child. I am a mother of two kids and there is no way on earth I could have done such a thing," she was quoted as saying by the report. The court heard that the nanny planned the crime and waited for her employer to go to work in the morning. She brought a scarf with which she wrapped the baby's neck and gagged her with her hand to stop her from making any noise.

The accused then continued her daily household chores as normal not caring that the baby was lying motionless on her bed. The victim's mother, who is Indian-origin British citizen, telephoned her sister, directing her to go to her home. On her arrival, her sister noticed that the baby was not moving or making any sound in the nanny's lap.

She then rushed the baby to a nearby hospital in Al Qusais where she was told by the officials that the girl had passed away about two hours earlier. "She (R T) claimed her sponsor refused to send her back because he wanted her to take care of his baby and had spent lots of money to bring her to the country," a police lieutenant was quoted as saying by the report. The accused will be deported following the completion of her punishment, the court said.
