A jilted lover has been sentenced to three months in prison by a Dubai court followed by deportation for threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend unless she agreed to marry him.
Dubai Court of First Instance was told the Lebanese man sent the 27-year-old Iranian a threatening text message after she dumped him. He also allegedly tried to blackmail her using a sex tape they had recorded while together.
Prosecutors said the man, 32, had known the woman since 2011 as he was her manager. They had been engaged for some time – however the woman discovered her fiance had a wife and children, so she ended the relationship.
“He proposed and we got engaged,” she said. “But then I discovered that he was married and has children in Lebanon. He wasn’t honest with me so I dumped him.”
The court was told the man bombarded her with calls and, in May last year, sent her a threat via SMS, saying that he would kill her if she married anyone else.
Both the defendant and the woman face a separate case at Misdemeanour Court of having an illegal affair.
