Minor's killing: Protestors block India-Bhutan road link
Siliguri: Protesting against the alleged rape and murder of a teenage girl, local residents Sunday blocked the SAARC Road in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district, snapping the Indo-Bhutan road link, police said.

The body of 16-year-old girl, who had gone to Bhutan to work as a maid, was found Saturday night in Samtse district in Bhutan. The Bhutan Police later contacted the victim's family and handed over the body to them Sunday.

Alleging that the girl - a resident of Banarhat in the district - was raped and murdered, locals Sunday blocked the SAARC Road and resorted to arson.

"The victim's family has filed a complaint that the girl was raped and murdered but since the incident happened in Bhutan, we don't have jurisdiction there," Banarhat police station inspector-in-charge Manik Debnath said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime) Aniruddha Thakur, who was at the spot trying to disperse the agitating locals, said the angry protesters have torched and vandalised several vehicles.

"The situation is tense but under control," said Thakur.
