Bengaluru: Miscreants set ablaze the yet-to-be-inaugurated statue of late Kannada matinee idol Dr Rajkumar in Bangarappanagar in Rajarajeshwarinagar around midnight on Wednesday. Following the incident, unrest prevailed in the locality and surrounding areas, with fans' associations of the star and Kannadaorganisations gathering at the spot and shouting slogans.

Police said a Kannada organisation which erected the statue was set to inaugurate it at the end of the month. Meanwhile, there are reports of a dispute between two groups of people over the location of the statue. A dalitorganisation had also staked the claim to the place adjacent to the statue. Police are tightlipped over the controversy.
