Fake shopping portal busted in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: City crime branch busted a fake shopping portal here by raiding its office and arresting six partners for allegedly duping gullible customers with false advertisements, police said late Saturday. "The accused created a smart website BIGSOP.com, used an ICICI Bank payment gateway and lured gullible customers by advertising on its pop-ups 'You are the lucky internet winner of iPhones for Rs.599'," a senior police official told IANS here.

Unwittingly, hundreds of gullible customers registered with the portal and paid the full amount only to find out later that they have been deceived by the suspects. "As the address given on the portal was also fake, one of the victims of the fraud tweeted to city police about the scam, as he did not get the much promised iPhone," the crime branch sleuth pointed out. "We have registered a case against the accused by taking the tweet as a complaint to nab them and investigate the case," the police official added.
