Mangaluru, Kodagu on high alert as bird flu hit Kerala

Bengaluru: As Kerala has been struck with bird flu high alert has been declared in South Kanara, Mysore, Kodagu and Chamarajanagar. As per reports nearly 7,ooo chickens have died so far due to bird flu (avian influenza) in Kerala.
State animal husbandry minister T.B Jayachandra said that there is no need panic. Precautionary measures has been taken to avoid the spreading of the disease. He also said that the chances of outbreak of the disease in the state is remote.
A team of veterinarians had already been deputed in border districts to take necessary measures to prevent the spread of the disease in the State. Surveillance had been stepped up border village areas. The minister chaired a meeting with department officials and veterinarians in Bengaluru on Tuesday November 25.
