First the good news – Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will launch its much-awaited mobile phone application on Friday, which happens to be BMTC’s “Bus Day” for January. The bad news is that the mobile phone application will be static.
The Android application, which has been in the pipeline for at least the last three years, will show only routes, the scheduled time of starting and end points, and their timings. It will not show any real-time information such as the exact location of a moving bus or what time it will reach a particular bus stop. Ekroop Caur, Managing Director, BMTC, said that along with the launch of the mobile app, the BMTC will focus on Whitefield, where it will introduce new Chakra services for “internal mobility”.
She said, “The app will show updates of buses in real-time when the integrated transport solution (ITS) is up and running.”
Awaiting ITSKumar Pushkar, Chief Consrevator of Forests, Budget and Audit, and former IT Director (BMTC), said that the application will provide all information after three to four months when the ITS has been “fully developed”. In the past few months, the bugs that the software had have been resolved. Users who want to download the application on Google Play Store can search for “BMTC”, with the developer’s name also as “BMTC”.
Ms. Caur said that the Corporation would also release the findings of a survey of “level of service” which reflects people’s expectations from the BMTC and what action was taken by it in response.
