Lecturer’s Association has decided to boycott the PUC - II evaluation in April.
The Karnataka State Pre-University College Lecturer’s Association has decided to boycott the PUC - II evaluation in April.

The association president, Timmaiah Purale told the presspersons here on Sunday that this time the fight will continue till the issue was taken to its logical end.

“We agree that students will suffer. Therefore, we are announcing the boycott one and half months in advance. Successive Governments have failed to do justice to us. Let the Government do justice to us if it is having concern about the students. We are fighting since 1992”, Mr. Purale said.

He said the Kumar Naik Committee formed by the Government on April 11, 2011 had recommended for minimum basic salary of Rs 12,650, which if implemented would have become Rs 25,300 today. Meanwhile, tahasildars and veterinary doctors who fall under the same grade, had payment enhancement and getting Rs. 28,100 as basis salaries. But the PU lecturer’s basic salary is Rs. 22,800, he added.

Moreover, PU lecturers are deprived of promotion except for 10 per cent getting promoted as principals. The Government should provide for 25 per cent reservation on lines of Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal Government for the eligible PU lecturers during appointments of degree college lecturers. The Committee too had recommended for 5-10 per cent reservation.

While the primary and high school teachers are promoted to PU, the PU lecturers are denied same facility. Of 16,350 lecturers, 1,200 have fulfilled the UGC norms to serve in degree colleges, Mr. Purale said.
