This year’s 81.82 is the highest SSLC result since 1996

Bengaluru: The pass percentage in this year’s SSLC examinations (81.82) is the highest since the inception of the Karnataka Secondary Education Examinations Board in 1966.
Announcing the results here on Tuesday, Commissioner for Public Instruction Mohammed Mohsin attributed the overall improvement in results to the introduction of the Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation programme this year.
Under this, students were assessed during the academic year on various aspects and all marks were considered for the annual exam.
While the overall pass percentage has gone up by only 0.6 compared to last year, the results in general have improved significantly, Mohsin said.
In 2014, around 3.09 per cent candidates secured between 90 per cent and 100 per cent marks. This time it has gone up to 4.09 per cent.
Also, 10.06 per cent candidates secured between 80-90 per cent marks in 2014, this time it is 11.58 per cent.
In contrast, the number of students who scored low marks has gone down. The percentage of candidates who scored between 35 and 49 per cent marks has gone down from 28.95 in 2014 to 15.90 in 2015.
Vishwajit Prakash Hegde, a student of Sirsi Lions English High School, Sirsi, has topped the State with a total of 623 out of 625 marks. Five students have scored 622 and as many as 15 students have scored 621.
Udupi district has topped the State with a pass percentage of 93.37, followed by Chikkodi with 93.32 and Uttara Kannada with 92.87.
Once again, the overall pass percentage of girls (86.23 per cent) is higher than that of boys (77.85 per cent). Of the total 8,37,357 candidates who appeared for the exam, there were 7,88,442 freshers, 27,258 regular repeaters, 16,304 private freshers and 5,353 private repeaters.
About 84.85 per cent regular freshers, 48.11 per cent regular repeaters, 9.54 per cent private freshers and 28.17 per cent private repeaters have cleared the exam. The State government will give a laptop to the top three candidates from every district and taluk.
