A 25-year-old security guard was found brutally murdered in a failed attempt to rob a Union Bank ATM kiosk in K.R. Puram in the wee hours of Sunday.
Police have identified the deceased as Minnathulla Barbia, a native of Assam who was deputed at the Union Bank's ATM near Tin Factory.
The assailants gagged his mouth with a tape, tied his hands and legs before clubbing him to death with a blunt weapon. The assailants made a futile attempt to break open the machine and later fled after downing the ATM shutter.
Poeple did not visit the ATM, hence nobody noticed the murder, but in the evening around 6 p.m. on Sunday, a few customers came to withdraw cash and found Barbia in a pool of blood.
The K.R. Puram police rushed to the spot and conducted initial investigations.
The police recovered the CCTV footage and are analyzing to ascertain the identity of the attacker.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Satish Kumar said that the police are also not ruling out the possibility of personal enmity behind the murder.
