Kochi: BJP Monday rejected reports that Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi's appointment as chairman of the National Film Development Corporation was delayed due to stiff opposition from a section in the state party leadership.

BJP state unit president V Muraleedharan said the party's state unit has given its opinion when Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley held discussions with him regarding Gopi's appointment.

"We all welcome his appointment (as NFDC Chairman)". We have given our opinion...But it is the government which takes a final decision on issues like this," Muraleedharan told reporters here when asked about reports that state BJP leaders had objected to Gopi's appointment in NFDC.
