Jagathy's daughter meets father on stage

The wait is over Mollywood's legendary comedian Jagathy Sreekumar made his first public appearance since his accident at an event in St. George college, Erattupetta, on Sunday.

Once the legendary actor took the stage, a series of dramatic sequences unfurled as his daughter, actress Sreelakshmi, made a sudden entry to the dais. From among the audience, Sreelakshmi ran to her father and hugged him.

Disregarding the chaos that followed, media photographers swarm around the father-daughter duo to get a good shot.

The organisers were taken aback at first on seeing a young girl in jeans and a white top rushing to the stage, hugging the actor and planting a kiss on his cheek. Soon, they realised that she was the actor's daughter.

Meanwhile, P.C. George MLA, whose son Shaun is married to Jagathy's elder daughter Parvathy, attempted to shoo away the girl from the stage, but to no avail.

Soon, the person sitting next to Jagathy gave up his seat for Sreelakshmi, who leaned forward to kiss her father. The organisers brought the situation under control in no time and Sreelakshmi was seen chatting up with the actor.

Around 10 minutes later, she bid an emotional adieu to her father and left the stage.

"I am happy that Pappa's health condition has improved quite a lot. He recognised me and nodded his head when I told him about my studies. He even kissed me goodbye," Sreelakshmi told Manorama News.

Sreelakshmi is Jagathy's daughter from his second wife, Kala Sreekumar. It came as a surprise to many when Jagathy revealed that he had a love child named Sreelakshmi, a few days before he got hospitalised after an accident.

Kala and Sreelakshmi had filed a complaint against Jagathy's elder daughter Parvathy and family, for not allowing them to see him. However, the petition was later closed when Jagathy's legitimate children told the court that they did not have any objection to the two visiting their father, if doctors allowed it.

"Jagathy's family did not allow Sreelakshmi to see her father. And her only option was to visit him on such a public event,"

Sunday's function was the first public event the wheelchair-bound veteran actor attended since the accident.

It was organised by P.C. George, the former government chief whip, to honour students who had scored well in the 12th standard exam.

Jagathy, who has acted in at least 1,500 films, had met with a road accident in March 2012 at Kozhikode and it left him critically injured.

He was hosptialised for a year and is still under treatment. The mishap has kept him away from films.
