Mumbai: The Manickpur police have booked a 22-year-old youth for riding under the influence of alcohol and ramming his two-wheeler into a 13-year-old girl.

The youth was irked that the minor had rejected his advances, and assaulted her by dragging her on the road; the girl sustained injuries on her face and legs.

The 13-year-old girl, a resident of Vasai (W), was walking on the street when Neeraj Ahire (22), a resident of Diwanman in Vasai (W) stopped her several times.

He kept cajoling her into entering into a relationship with him, but she flatly refused each time. Enraged that he was snubbed, he backed up his bike (MH 04 EK 2528) and dragged her along on the road.

The girl said that the youth would often follow and try talking to her, but she would not carry on the conversation. "He pulled me by my hair and dragged me on the street. When people began gathering after hearing my cries, he rode off, leaving me injured," added the 13-year-old.

The passersby who had stopped when they heard the commotion called the girl's sister, who rushed her to Dr Palaskar Hospital at Bhabola Naka, Vasai.

An officer with Manickpur police said: "The youth was under the influence of alcohol, and he deliberately bumped into the girl with his vehicle after she rejected his proposals."

KS Hegaje, senior inspector, Manickpur police, said: "We have registered the case under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act."

The inspector added that they would register a case of stalking as well, and are recording the girl's statements.
