245 babies born on Hudhud day in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: On October 12, when the severe cyclone Hudhud hit Odisha as many as 245 babies were born at various hospitals in eight southern districts of the state. According to sources, on the Hudhud day, 29 babies were born in Gajapati district, 35 in Ganjam, 15 in Malkangiri, 52 in Nabarangpur, 44 in Koraput, 25 in Kandhamal, 7 in Rayagada and 38 in Kalahandi. A day before the Hudhud hit the state, 397 high risk pregnant women expecting delivery were admitted in these hospitals.

 Out of these 397 pregnant women, 102 were from Koraput, Nabarangpur (31), Malkangiri (49), Rayagada (66), Gajapati (37), Kalahandi (25), Ganjam (22) and Kandhamal (58). In these hospitals, uninterrupted power supply was provided with the help of generators so as to carry out surgeries as well as normal deliveries.
