Honda Cars India finally launched the fourth-generation Honda City in India at a starting price of Rs 7.42 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The sedan was globally unveiled in November 2013. The Honda City has always been a volume generator for the company, and this time the vehicle has set a new milestone for itself by receiving over 9000 bookings, even before its launch. Based on Honda’s global design theory “EXCITING H!!!, the exterior of the new City is known as Sleek Crossmotion, while interior is inspired from a layered Floating Cockpit.
The new headlights, front fog lamps, foldable ORVMs with turn blinker, sunroof, chrome door handles, shark-fin antenna, alloy wheels and several other styling elements reflect the premium class of the car. With a longer wheelbase, the new 2014 Honkda City offers more cabin space than before. The sedan comes integrated with eight speaker stereo system with CD player, Aux-in and Bluetooth support, a climate control unit with front and rear passengers, rear parking camera, power outlets at rear seats, a five-inch LCD display, an instrument cluster with the ‘Econ’ light setting, a start-stop button, a touch-screen panel and several other advanced features.

This time Honda is more focused on fuel efficiency, and introduced the new 2014 Honda City diesel, which delivers a class-leading mileage of 26kmpl (ARAI certified). The sedan shares both its petrol and diesel engines with the compact sedan – Amaze. The 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine delivers a peak power output of 98bhp and a torque of 200Nm. This power-unit is offered with a six-speed manual gearbox only.

The City petrol comes boosted with a 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine, which can be bought either with a five speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic transmission. It offers a maximum power of 117bhp with 146Nm of torque. On the fuel efficiency front, the City petrol leads its class and offers a whopping 17.8kmpl and 18kmpl of mileage with manual and automatic transmission, respectively. In terms of drivability, handling and safety the fourth-generation Honda City has an upper hand compared to its rivals. With low maintenance cost and cheaper spare parts, the City proves to be a worthy/ an economical deal. Available in five trims (E, S, SV, V and VX), the 2014 Honda City costs between Rs.7.42 lakh and Rs.11.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
