Sunil Gavaskar has opined that India try Ravichandran Ashwin as opener given his sound technique and temperament.

According to The Times Of India, Gavaskar reckoned that Ashwin could be tried instead of a struggling Shikhar Dhawan since Ashwin, with his style of play was ideally suited to opening the batting. Gavaskar was quoted saying,

“Whether India go in without Dhawan remains to be seen but if they do so then it would be a good idea to try Ashwin at the opening slot. He is a well organised batsman and has the technique to handle the moving and bouncing ball.”

Gavaskar also felt that beating a rejuvenated England team at Perth won’t exactly be a walk in the park for the Indians. The 34 Test centurion said,

“England have lifted their game dramatically since conceding a bonus point to Australia in the first game. The pitch at Perth is going to be pretty similar to the one in Brisbane where the Indian batsmen floundered, and India will also have to bat out of their skins to put up a winning score”
