Students, Hindu organizations protest against construction of Azad community hall
Mangaluru: Tension prevailed in Pandeshwar here on December 13 as members of the Hindu organizations and the students of Kerala Samajam English Medium School, staged a protest against the laying of the foundation stone for Azad Community Bhavan.

The protesters protested against district in charge minister for handing over the land to the Wakf board. District Minister In-charge, MLA J R Lobo, MLC Ivan D'Souza and Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim reached the spot on time for the foundation stone laying ceremony, but they had to face the fury of the protesters.

The school authority claims that the children of Kerala Samajam English Medium school are playing in this ground from the last thirty years. The school doesn’t have any other play ground. The school had also submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner requesting to officially give permission to the school to utilize the empty land for students to play. Earlier the in charge minister had assured that he will help us in this case. But now the land has been given to the Wakf board for constructing community hall.

Locals also explained that youths of the locality use this land as a play ground. Even the students of Kerala Samajam use this as their play ground. Nobody was aware that a community hall is planned to build on this land. We want to retain it as a play ground for all, the government should work for the betterment of the students and the locals and not to please one community.

Speaking to the mediapersons corporator of the ward Divakar also complained that, being a corporator, he was kept in dark, he was not informed that a community hall will come up in this land. He also stated that he will not allow the administration to go against the locals and the school students and build a community hall here and said, “We want to use this as a play ground and the district administration should drop the idea of building the community hall here or provide a play ground nearby".

He further added that a memorandum has been submitted to the district minister in-charge to make it as a play ground.
