Hephsiba Korlapati takes charge as new MCC commissioner
Mangaluru: Hephsiba R Korlapati took charge as the new commissioner of the Mangaluru City Corporation in her office today. Urban Development minster Vinay Kumar Sorake, who had to face protests in every program he participated in recent days from the opposition BJP corporators can breathe a sigh of relief at the appointment.

Speaking to reporters after taking charge, Korlapati said that as she is new to the city, she will first study the ground realities and then act accordingly.

"Mangaluru city has lots of potential and I have some plans in mind. However, I first need to make a proper study and speak to the officials. I need at least one week to study the city and then I will act on my plans," she said, without elaborating on what those plans were.

The non-appointment of MCC commissioner had become a contentious issue with the opposition stalling several MCC meetings and BJP members staging repeated protests in public. In mid-2014, Ajit Kumar Hegde Shanadi, the earlier MCC commissioner, was sent on training to Hyderabad and H Prasanna appointed in his place.

However, reportedly due to political conflicts, Prasanna was transferred soon after taking charge and Ajit Hegde was re-appointed. But his appointment was not given official nod from the government. Meanwhile, Gokul Nayak functioned as the interim MCC commissioner.

27-year-old Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, the new commissioner of MCC is from Basavakalyan in Bidar district but hails from Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh. She is an IAS officer of the 2011 batch.

She secured the 20th rank in IAS. She has served as assistant commissioner of Basavakalyana sub-division in Bidar district.

Hephsiba has done her BA from Osmania University, Hyderabad and MA in Geography from Delhi School of Economics.
