New Year begins with resolution to complete Shiradi Ghat road works

Mangaluru: The deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada AB Ibrahim has said that Shiradi Ghat stretch of national highway 75 will remain closed from January 2, 2015, for the completion of its repair and development works.
He announced this decision on Monday December 30, in a meeting which had district in-charge minister B Ramanatha Rai, MLA, J R Lobo, zilla panchayat chief executive officer, Tulasi Maddineni, and other officials among the present.
During the period from January 2, till the repairs and development works are completed, the vehicles moving on this road have been asked to take alternative routes.
While ordinary buses and other light vehicles will have to use the Charmadi Ghat road to travel to the state's capital, Luxury buses will have to take the Madikeri-Mysore route.
Tankers and other heavy vehicles have been instructed to take the Honnavar-Bengaluru route.
Even though it was announced many a times in the year 2014 that the ghat will be closed for renovation, no strict order had been issued from the district administration.
