Sleep on the lap incident: Youth brutally assaulted by a gang
Surathkal:  Mohammed Riyaz (20) a student of Govindas college here was  brutally assaulted by a group of people who were said to be activists of a Hindu outfit. It may be remembered that Riyaz was one among the three boys who appeared in the photo in which another boy named Mohammed Swali was sleeping on the laps of five girl students which went viral on social medias.

It is reported that Riyaz was at home on Sunday when two classmates came to his house and later they took him with them. On the way a group of people attacked them and Riyaz was brutally assaulted by the group.

When Riyaz didn’t return home for long time his parents grew suspicious and filed a missing complaint in the police station. Later Riyaz was found lying semi conscious near NITK beach. He was taken to the hospital. The two youths who visited Riyaz are absconding.
It is learnt that Mohammed Swali who was clicked sleeping on the laps on the girl student is also went absconding and saffron outfit activists are  on search for him. A rumour spread in the region on Sunday that one of the girl in the photo committed suicide. The messages were passed through social medias. But police have urged the people not pay heed to these kind of rumours and maintain peace in the society.

Following the incident tight security has been deployed near the college in question and in other sensitive regions in Surathkal.
