GP elections: Father-Daughter duo emerge victorious in Belma

Ullal: In Belma village municipality a father and daughter emerged as winners.

Former president of Belma gram panchayat Usman Aksa and his daughter Suhail Usman contested in the GP election with the support from JDS.

While Usman Aksa won the election for the second time this is the first election for Suhail and she has emerged victorious. Hence there will be two persons from the same family representing the Belma municipality.

Usman Aksa is the president of JDS in Mangaluru assembly constituency and Suhail is a BSc graduate.

Udupi district JDS President Deviprasad Shetty steps down from the post

Udupi: Udupi Janatha Dal (Secular) president Deviprasad Shetty resigned to his district presidentialship on Thursday, April 16. This unexpected development  has shocked the  party workers.

Sources said that Deviprasad Shetty has submitted resignation letter to H D Devegowda, national president of JDS.

Speaking at the press meet in Udupi Shetty said  "I have resigned willingly from the post. Even after remaining as party president for 15 years I haven’t achieved what I was expected. The number of active party workers is going down day by day and I think I have failed in keeping things stable. I have no regrets and it is my own decision to resign from the post” he said.

I fought for major issues like Padur-Thokur pipeline, land acquisition and protested against district authority and my fight will continue against anti farmer attitude of the government Shetty added.

"From now onwards I will remain as JDS member and will fight impartially for the betterment of public. I made Belapu panchayat a model village panchayat during my term. I have not done any planning for my political future." Shetty said.

Regarding the upcoming village panchayat elections, Shetty said that he has not thought about contesting for the of post of president of Belapu village panchayat.

Crack in Citizen’s committee: BJP lost in election

Sullia: In an election that took place for the post of president and vice-president in Primary Agricultural Co—op Society, a fissure in the committee led BJP to be defeated by Congress and JDS.

Mahesh Karikal of Congress is elected as President and Santhosh Jaake of JDS is Vice-President.

In the citizen’s committee election, BJP and Congress made understanding and won 8 seats and defeated Jaake Madhav Gauda who won 2 seats.

But as a strategy against BJP, Jaake team assured Congress their support for Presidential elections. Whickh led to a setback for the demand of BJP to get the President’s post. Even then BJP decided to contest for elections. A.V.Bhat for president post and Kuldeep for Vice-President were the candidates from BJP.

But  Mahesh and Santhosh won the election by 8 votes where as BJP lost against them with 3 votes.

Plans are on to strengthen JDS in Mangaluru: Deve Gowda

Mangaluru: Addressing the media here on Wednesday on November 5, Supremo of JDS DeveGowda the party is planning to strengthen its base in Mangaluru and discussions are already going on for the same.

He said that he will visit all the 224 assembly constituencies in the state personally to strengthen the JDS. 'We have three and half years before us before the next assembly election falls due. I want to utilize this gap to improve the popularity of JDS party and get more seats in the assembly election. Everyone should think that Deve Gowda is still working for his party even at such an advanced age."

Speaking about the party’s plight in Mangaluru Gowda said, 'JDS does not have a strong presence in Mangaluru at present. To make it stronger, we will have to start building it from grass root level. I am here to strengthen the party from the bottom.

Deve Gowda also met his party workers at Shanthi Nilaya to discuss about strengthening his party's presence in Mangaluru. JDS leader M B Sadashiva, city corporator, Aziz and others were present on this occasion.
