New Delhi: Raking controversy, Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Ashok Singhal on Friday said it was after 800 years that Delhi is being governed by Hindus. Addressing an audience at the inaugural session of the three-day World Hindi Congress, Singhal was referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who led the BJP to an empathic victory in the 2014 general elections. He said that power had returned to a Hindu swabhimani (proud Hindu)" in Delhi after eight centuries.

"Eight hundred years after it (the power at Delhi) went away from Prithviraj Chauhan, it did not come into the hands of a proud Hindu. It has happened after 800 years," Singhal said. Over 1,500 delegates from over 40 countries are expected to participate in the event that aims to provide a global platform for the Hindu society.
