Residents of Jokatte take to streets demanding closure of MRPL's Sulphur and Coke units

Mangaluru: Residents of Jokatte , once agin took to streets on December 3, Wednesday, urging the closure of Sulphur and Coke units at the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical Limited (MRPL) Phase III plant that has been a cause of pollution in the area.

Since the police had denied to hold Jokatte bandh, the protestors came down to streets to march towards MRPL and later stage a protest.

Since the beginning of these units the environment in the surrounding area has been badly polluted. It has been causing ailments ranging from respiratory problems to the one's dermatological in nature.

In spite of submitting many memo's to the ministers and MLA's, no efforts have been made to respond to the plea's of the locals
