Philanthropist Iqbal master demises

Bantwal: K.M Iqbal master (48) who was badly injured in road mishap on Saturday December 13 breathed his last in a private hospital in Mangaluru on Saturday December 20.

His body was kept for public view in Sajipa Laxmanakatte Masjid and was later last rites were done in Jumma masjid in Madani Nagar.

On December 13 when Iqbal master was on his way to office a car rammed over his two wheeler near old Nethravathy bridge. Iqbal was thrown on the road and sustained injuries on his head. He was rushed to the hospital but after battling one week for life he breathed his last.

Iqbal master was a creative man and was involved in many social, religious and educational movements. He had rendered his support towards student’s scholarships, help for the education of poor children, wedding of poor girls and many other noble causes.

Lokayukta raid PWD engineer’s house in Bantwal

Mangaluru: Lokayukta police on Saturday December 20, simultaneously raided the houses of government officers in various parts of the state and seized valuables and cash.

Lokayukta officers raided the house of PWD engineer Arun Prakash in B.D Road and verified the documents. The raid was conducted as Lokayukta officers were getting many complaints about the corruption done by Arun Prakash, it is said.

Man assaulted for transporting calf: Three arrested

Bantwal: A person was brutally assaulted by a group while he was transporting a calf in Oorla in Malady village near Punjalakatte. The police have arrested Honnayya, Hariprasad and Praveen in connection with the case.

The victim Abdul Hameed resident of Manjalpalke in Kukkala village had bought a calf from a woman in Oorla and while he was transporting it a group of six to seven men waylaid him and allegedly assaulted him.

More than two hundred people from two communities gathered in the place as the news spread. Police rushed to the spot and arrested the assaulters and took the calf and the victim to the station.

Abdul Hameed had told police that he bought the calf for nourishing. An assault case has been filed against the arrested persons. They were granted bail. The calf has been kept in the station. In the midst of all these incidents some people protested saying the police have arrested the innocent persons.

Benjanpadav people protest against the liquor shop near school

Bantwal: Contrary to its order not to give permission for bars and wines shops inside the 100m radiance of the school premises, state government had irked the residents of a village in Bantwal after granting permission to open a liquor shop near the school. Locals blame that the government has granted permission for MSIL to open liquor shop near a school in Benjanpadav in Kariyangala village.

As the news was spread about the opening of a liquor shop here locals started opposed the decision of the government. As the students need to cross this shop to reach the school government should not give permission to open liquor shop here said protesters. Earlier a memorandum was submitted district incharge minister and excise department regarding the matter. A decision was taken in the village meeting of Kariyangala and the report was sent to the related officers. Even the members of the mosque committee and Sthree Shakti groups had written letters to the officers.

But after all these requests and appeals from the villagers, the work of opening the liquor shop has gained momentum since few days which made locals to organize a huge protest against the government and the related officers opined local residents.

Youth from Bantwal goes missing

Bantwal: A missing complaint has been filed in Bantwal rural police station about a youth who went to work in Mangaluru.

Raveendra (27) son of Nonayya Poojary a resident of Abbettu in Meramajalu village here left home on December 15 for work in Bandar in Mangaluru but never returned home thereafter it is said in the complaint.

Youths assaulted stabbed in Vogga

Bantwal: Two youths were brutally assaulted and one was stabbed by a group of miscreants at Anchikatte in Vogga here on Wednesday evening.

The victims were identified as Siddiq (30) resident of Kelaginapete in Bantwal and Munaf (27) resident of Shanti Angadi in B.C Road. The duo were working for Everyday battery company as line salesmen and were returning from Belthangady when the incident happened.

The miscreants attacked them and stabbed Siddiq. It is said that the duo was attacked eyeing on the cash they were carrying with them. A case has been lodged at Bantwal police station.

Infosys donates computers to taluk municipal

Bantwal: Renowned IT company Infosys has donated 10 computers to Bantwal municipal department.

The officers of village municipal were complaining that the works are getting slow as there is lack of sufficient computers in the department. Taluk municipal President Yashwanth had urged the Infosys to do the favour. Responding to his appeal Infosys officials donated 10 computers to the municipal office.

Taluk municipal President Yashwanth, vice President Vilasini, former vice Presidents Anand A. Shamboor, Dinesh Amtoor and company officials were present.

Man went missing in Bantwal

Bantwal: A missing complaint filed in Bantwal police station about a man who went to work in a printing press.

The missing person is named as Sandeep (29) son of Babu Sapalya resident of Kotekani in Sajipa Nadu village here. As per the complaint lodged by his uncle Navin, Sandeep was working in Harsha printing press in Melkar. On Friday morning he left home for press but he never reached the press and went missing.

Sandeep was wearing black pant and shirt with black and white checks. Public are asked to inform Bantwal police about any information received about him on station Ph. No. 08255-235000.
