Boy dies of alleged medical negligence: Local protest in front of the hospital
Beltangady: Around 500 people led by Praja Prabhutva Vedike chief Mahesh Shetty Thimarody gathered in front of the Fr L M Pinto Health Centre, Badyar popularly known as Badyar hospital here on Thursday night December 11, after a 15-year-old boy who was admitted there died allegedly due to medical negligence.

Kiran (15), son of Srinivas Poojary underwent surgery for appendicitis in Badyar hospital but his health condition declined on Thursday. The doctors at Badyar hospital asked the family to shift him to a hospital in Mangaluru, but by then his condition had worsened and he could not be saved.

As per the doctors who examined him in the hospital in Mangaluru, Kiran had been given a medicine that had strong reaction on him. As a result, his nervous system was affected said family members. Incidentally, his mother Leelavati too had died under suspicious conditions in the same hospital six months ago.

A case has been filed in Beltangady police station in this regard.

As the news spread, a huge protest was organized. The protestors alleged that several such incidents of medical negligence had taken place in the Badyar hospital, but the local administration has failed to take any action. They demanded the immediate resignation and arrest of the doctor responsible for Kiran's death.
