Puttur : A two day old infant was found abandoned on a rock by the roadside at Kallega of Kabaka village in Puttur on Wednesday December 17.
On the morning of December 17, local resident Dinesh and his mother Girija heard the wails of an infant around 6 am. They went out to check and found the baby abandoned and placed on a rock surrounded by dry leaves. They took the child to home.
They later admitted the baby in taluk hospital. The doctors at the taluk hospital found that the baby’s umbilical cord was found severed and an injury mark was found in its neck. On the doctors' advice, Girija and Dinesh shifted the baby to Wenlock hospital in the city for further treatment. The police suspect that an attempt was made to kill it before being abandoned.
The baby has been put on ventilator in the neonatal intensive care unit of Wenlock pediatric care centre.
