Police Martyr’s day was observed in Mangalore

Mangalore: The Police Martyr’s day or Commemoration Day was observed by the district police on the DK District CRP ground here on October 21. Addressing the gathering police commissioner Hitendra said that in 1959 the police team led by DySP Karan Singh of CRP was ambushed while patrolling near the hot springs post by an overwhelming number of Chinese troops.

 

   

At that time the policemen were armed only with rifles and they fought with courage and determination till the end and ten policemen lost their lives. Nine were captured by the Chinese troops. Since then the entire country has been observing this day as a heroic day. The names of the policemen who have sacrificed their lives for the nation from 2013 to 2014 were read out by R Hitendra and Dr Sharanappa.

District Judge Uma speaking on the occasion said, "Policemen are working hard to retain the law and order and keeping the situation under control. We must salute them for their work and provide them with good facilities to lead their life".

Amrit Paul, IGP western range, police commissioner R Hitendra, SP Dr Sharanappa, District Judge M G Uma paid tributes on the occasion to those policemen who had sacrificed their lives while on duty. The police flag was lowered and a 2-minute silent prayer was observed for the departed souls of all the policemen.
