Surathkal fly over: Helmet lifters paradise

Surathkal: Do you park your bike under the fly over in Surathkal? Then just don’t keep any hope that your helmet will remain in on the two wheeler till you return. You better forget about about helmet. The helmet thieves in the region are keeping hawk eye on people who leave their helmets on bikes here. The menace of helmet thieves has increased now a days.

 

Ten per day:

Hundreds of people park their two wheelers under the fly over here and go for their work in Udupi, Mangaluru, Karkala, Manipal or other places. They prefer to leave their helmets on their vehicles. Only to find their helmets vanished when they return. Local people say that about teen helmets per day disappear here every day.

It’s a gang:

The helmet lifters work in a group. They watch the person who park his vehicle here and leave the helmet on it.  As soon as he gets into a bus the thieves slowly reach close to the vehicle and lift the helmet and flee away. They then sell these helmets in seconds market.

 

Install CC camera:

Bike riders are suffered as their helmets get stolen. Locals advise police department to install CCtv cameras under the fly over to tackle these kind of incidents. It is also suspected that many local people are involved in the helmet robbery and police need to take stern action against the culprits.
