Surathkal fly over: Helmet lifters paradise

Surathkal: Do you park your bike under the fly over in Surathkal? Then just don’t keep any hope that your helmet will remain in on the two wheeler till you return. You better forget about about helmet. The helmet thieves in the region are keeping hawk eye on people who leave their helmets on bikes here. The menace of helmet thieves has increased now a days.

 

Ten per day:

Hundreds of people park their two wheelers under the fly over here and go for their work in Udupi, Mangaluru, Karkala, Manipal or other places. They prefer to leave their helmets on their vehicles. Only to find their helmets vanished when they return. Local people say that about teen helmets per day disappear here every day.

It’s a gang:

The helmet lifters work in a group. They watch the person who park his vehicle here and leave the helmet on it.  As soon as he gets into a bus the thieves slowly reach close to the vehicle and lift the helmet and flee away. They then sell these helmets in seconds market.

 

Install CC camera:

Bike riders are suffered as their helmets get stolen. Locals advise police department to install CCtv cameras under the fly over to tackle these kind of incidents. It is also suspected that many local people are involved in the helmet robbery and police need to take stern action against the culprits.  

 

 

Law breakers damage two banners in Angaragudde

Mulky: Miscreants damaged two separate banners in the broad day light in Angaragudde on Friday December 12.

The banners of Unity conference of Al Madrasatul Badriya Jumma masjid on December 20 and another banner of Yakshagana of Kateel organised by Hemavathy Karunakar Shetty were been damaged by the miscreants.

The villagers suspected that it is a conspiracy to spoil harmony in the region. A case has been filed in the police station.

MLA Bava inaugurates graveyard and road work in Surathkal

Surathkal: MLA Mohiuddin Bava on Friday December 12 inaugurated development work of Hindu graveyard in Surathkal and road work in Krishanpur/Bail.  

The developmental works are done as a part of second phase of Rs.100 crore project of Mangaluru city corporation.  Various other developmental projects in Surathkal and Krishnapur were also initiated on this occasion.

Gunashekar Shetty, member of Mangaluru city corporation, owner of Seeandsay, Suresh Kumar, Pratibha Kulai and many others were present.

Youth attacked by group of miscreants in Surathkal

Surathkal: Gang of miscreants attacked a youth who was walking on the road near Krishnapur 4th block here injuring him seriously. The incident happened on Tuesday night at around 8.45pm.

The injured person has been identified as Tasleem Arif (29) resident of Krishnapur.

While Arif was on his way to home after work four miscreants who came in two bikes attacked Arif with sharp weapons. Arif sustained injuries on his hand, chest and head. He was admitted to a hospital.

Surathkal station officer Nataraj and ACP visited the spot. On the previous night person named Vinay was stabbed by some miscreants while he was walking on the road near Lalith hotel in Surathkal.

13th anniversary of Kaveri yuvaka and Mahila mandala organised in Surathkal

Surathkal: 10th annual Satyanarayana Puja and clubs 13th anniversary celebration of Kaveri yuvaka and mahila mandala was organised at Kanteri Dhoomavathi temple here on Sunday December 7.

The programme was inaugurated by Nalinaksha Pandit. Trustee of the temple P.T Rai, owner of Seeandsay, Suresh Kumar and others were present. Donation was received from the people towards the surgery of Shanvi of Neermarga who is suffering from eye cancer.  In the evening the cultural programme will be held from 5pm. Excellent dance group and other troupes will perform in the programme. Later `Ini athnda Elle’ drama directed by Madhu Bangera Kalladka will be performed by the artists of `Tuluvere Tudar’ team.

Thousands of people join hands to Clean Baggundi rivulet

Surathkal: The dredging work in Baggundi rivulet in Kulai near here has commenced on Sunday November 30. Various social organizations including Kulai Nagarika Samiti and locals participated in the initiative of cleaning the Baggundi pond.

JCB was used for dredging and efforts were made to clean the water of the rivulet. It’s been a long pending demand of the locals and various organizations to clean Baggundi. Due to the weed and vegetarians grown on the rivulet had led to the stopping of fish catching fair which was a popular fair of the region.

The fish catching fair attracts thousands of people from around the district and people used to prepare variety of dishes from fishes caught here. Due to polluted water the fish species has declined in Baggundi rivulet which had forced to stop the fair.

One dead as bus car collide in Surathkal

Mulky: In a gruesome accident between a private bus and car one person died on the spot and four severely injured. The incident  occurred near NITK in Surathkal.

Deceased has been identified as Ashi, resident of Kudroli. The bus was plying towards Padubidri and was carrying workers for Suzlon company. The over speeding plying from Mangaluru to Mulky rammed into the bus from back. Due to the impact of the incident Ashik died on the spot and the four people were gruesomely injured and were rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru. Surathkal traffic police have filed a case.

Modi mania: Locals rename village as `Modi Nagar’

Surathkal: The residents of Munchur near Surathkal have renamed their village as `Modi Nagar’.  Narendra Modi the present prime minister of India has gained popularity not only in India but also in foreign countries. On Sunday evening in a simple ceremony the name of the village was rechristened. Former mayor of MCC Rajani Dugganna, corporator Sumithra, local businessman Satish Munchur and others were present.
