Congress cries foul on Indira Gandhi being 'sidelined'

New Delhi: The Narendra Modi-led government celebrated the 139th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel by flagging-off the Run for Unity marathon at Vijay Chowk on Friday. However, PM Modi and his ministers failed to turn up at the Shakti Sthal to pay tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 30th death anniversary.

The Congress criticised the BJP-ruled government, especially its Union ministers for shunning tribute to the former prime minister. The legacy of late PM was being stifled, complained the Congress leaders. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, who was recently removed as a party spokesperson for praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, slammed the NDA government, in a tweet, for ignoring the martyrdom of late prime minister Indira Gandhi, whose death anniversary falls on October 31.
