Rains leave devotees stranded in Tirupati, Nellore among worst affected

Nellore/Tirupati: Heavy rains, triggered by low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, threw life out of gear in several towns and cities in Nellore and Chittoor districts of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. Heavy rains ravaged several towns and villages across Nellore district since the early hours of Wednesday, causing a flood-like situation at several places.
Nellore city and rural areas were affected the most with the sudden and heavy downpour on Wednesday. Meanwhile, other areas bordering the coast received good rains on Wednesday. While Sullurpet recorded rainfall of 95.2 mm, Sriharikota 24 mm and Venkatagiri town 22.6 mm on Wednesday.
Rains also disrupted life at Tirumala and Tirupati and several other areas in Chittoor district. The sudden, heavy cloudburst, which began at Tirumala early on Wednesday, continued for hours together, inconveniencing devotees.
Devotees were also left stranded at various places including Annadanam complex, cottages, tonsure centres, reception counters as well.
