Kambla-Famous sports of coastal region of Karnataka is banned by apex court

Mangaluru: Supreme Court of India has passed an order to ban the famous sports of coastal region of Karnataka `Kambla’ (Buffaloe race). Udupi administration has been told to follow the order of the apex court. The animal welfare organisation had filed a rit in the court against Kambla. The court also banned some other sports which include animal participation.
The district administration had sought permission for Kambla which will be held from November 15 to March 28 next year. Ban from Supreme Court has made Kambla lovers sad. Kambla is a famous traditional sports of coastal region especially in Udupi and Mangaluru. The animal welfare organisation had accused that animals are beaten up in the Kambla to win the race. But the Kambla lovers always denied the accusation.
