MCC to get new commissioner in January: Mohideen Bawa

Mangaluru: Mangaluru City North MLA B.A Mohideen Bawa said the Janata Darshan programme – where citizens can air their grievances to elected representatives – will be held in Surathkal on Saturday, December 27.

Speaking to the reporters in the city, he said that the programme which is initiated by Chief Minister Siddarmaiah in every taluk, will be presided over by Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai. The Janata Darshan programme will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hotel Lalith International at Suratkal, he informed.

He said that the programme would be inaugurated by Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes, while urban development minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MCC Mahabala Marla and corporators of the concerned wards would be present.

Facilities such as sites for the landless families, auto rickshaws under self-employment scheme, wheelchairs for physically challenged, ration cards for around 200 beneficiaries and health care facilities will be distributed during the programme, he said.

On the issue of tackling pollution emanating from the refinery company MRPL located on the outskirts of Mangaluru, Bawa said that he would discuss the issue with the chief minister along with a delegation and also bring it to the notice of the union minister.

Besides, he also warned major companies in his constituency against utilizing their funds under corporate social responsibility (CSR) for development work in other taluks. "The companies should utilise their CSR funds for the development of local communities, failing which I will take up a fight against them," he said.
