Mangaluru: Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda on Friday said that the branches of erstwhile Janata Parivar, which were divided in the past, will be merged under on symbol may be by February.
Speaking to the reporters in the city, Gowda said that we had two rounds of discussion with leaders of different parties. Before the February session of the Parliament, we will merge”, he added.
Leaders including Janata Dal (United), Janata Dal (Secular), Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and others will function under one name and one symbol, he said. With this, the strength of Janata Parivar in the Lok Sabha would go up to 15. If Naveen Patnaik, chief of Biju Janata Dal too joins hands, the strength would be 35, making the Parivar the fourth largest party in the Lok Sabha. “Patnaik is yet to take a stand on this”, he said.
Modi silence on re-conversion
Gowda further said that the Parliament session, both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, got disrupted after Bharatiya Janata Party refused to comment on the conversion issue. Prime Minister Narendra Modi too is not reacting on the issue. It’s condemnable, he said.
He pointed out that when A.B Vajpayee was the prime minister, he did the balancing act. Vajpayee never behaved like Modi and took everyone along. Conversion, whether voluntary, forced or induced, would send a wrong message to society, the former Prime Minister said.
