Elephant attack: Crops worth lakhs damaged

Siddhapur: Wild elephants along with domesticated elephants plunged into crop fields and damaged crops worth lakhs of rupees. The incident happened in Dubare. The travelers went into tizzy watching elephants going wild on crop fields. 8 elephants including 3 wild elephants crossed the river Cauvery and came to the travelers spot at Dubare and stayed there for two days.

The loss due to the animal havoc is estimated as Rs. 10 lakh. Fortunately nobody lost life in the incident. Due to the elephant attack the visitors were restricted from entering the Dubare. The locals of nanjarayapattana and Dubare stayed at home faring the attack from the wild elephant.

After efforts for many hours the elephants were chased to the woods with the help of tamed elephants. Incharge forest officer B.B Mallesh conducted an operation with the help of the locals to get away with the wild animals.

In 2002 a native man domesticated an elephant and later the number increased to 5. Now as these dumb animals have no place to go. They often visit villages in search of food said B.B Mallesh.
