2 rapes in 1 day in Shakarnarayana: Police reluctant on nabbing the accused

Udupi: Locals blame police department over their reluctance in nabbing an accused in rape attempt in Shankarnarayana here. Two rape attempt incidents took place in Shankarnarayana jurisdiction on Monday September 29. Police have arrested the accused in one case while the other one is still at large.
Incident 1:
A married man tried to rape a married woman b y entering her house at night. The accused was identified as Balakrishna Shetty (56). He tried to lure her in many ways but when she refused to marry him, he allegedly threatened her. Woman filed a complaint against him and police arrested him. But he got the bail and came out of the police custody. After release he again made phone calls to the woman and used indecent words about her. Later while her 13 year old daughter was waiting for the bus in the bus stand, accused came near to her tried to hug her. He also threatened to rape her if her mother doesn’t agree to marry him.
Again a complaint was filed at Shankarnarayan police station against Balakrishna. But the locals blame that the police is not showing any interest in nabbing the culprit. It is said that the accused has support from political leaders and was involved in many such cases.
Incident 2:
Police arrested the accused as per the complaint given by victim’s mother on Monday. Accused had followed the girl and while she was standing on the veranda, he forcefully dragged her and tried to rape her, it is said.
