Will protest against the banning of Kambala: Deviprasad Shetty

Udupi: Banning of Kambala, (the traditional bull race) by Supreme Court is not right. Kambala is an integral part of Tulu culture and tradition. Hence discussion is on to stage protest against the court order in front of the DC office said Belapu Deviprasad Shetty, President of Aikala Kambala committee.

Speaking to the media persons on Wednesday November 26 Shetty said that the decision of the Apex court to ban kambala is not right. Tulu people must protest against this. Many kambalas have been organised in South Kanara and Udupi. The order of the Apex court will affect the organizers badly said Deviprasad Shetty.

Sexual harassment case on Auto driver who tried to save woman

Udupi: Sexual harassment case was filed against an auto driver who tried to save the life of a woman who suddenly tried to cross the road. The incident happened in Katapady on Thursday November 20. Illyas Ibrahim, his wife, Fatimat Zohara, and the couple's child, residents of Mallaru near Katapadi had hired an auto rickshaw to travel to Sarkari Gudde. Dinesh the driver of the auto suddenly applied break as a woman suddenly came across his vehicle. In the procedure Fatimat and her child sustained injury.  A motor bike following this three wheeler also hit the auto rickshaw as a result. When the driver was speaking to the bike rider, Illyas and his friend, Altaf, who was at the spot, allegedly took a task on Dinesh, holding him responsible for causing injuries to the two.

Dinesh then got admitted into the district hospital and a complaint was filed against Illyas and Altaf. Police later arrested the duo. Fatimat Zohara filed a counter case saying that Dinesh was responsible for causing injuries to her and her child. She said that Dinesh had pulled her and her child out of the auto and caused injuries to them.

On learning about the incident Auto rickshaw drivers from Katapadi, stopped operation of auto rickshaws on Friday afternoon at Katapadi. The drivers, who gathered in front of Katapadi police outpost, warned of organizing stronger protest if the said false complaint is not withdrawn. Some local leaders, leaders of the drivers, and police held a meeting. The auto rickshaw drivers said they had withdrawn the stir based on an assurance given by the police, and said they would resume stronger methods of protest if the false complaint is pursued.

Confirmed! Kambla is banned D.K, Udupi

Mangaluru: District Dpty Commissioner handed over the copies of Supreme Court banning Kambla (racing of bulls) on Friday November 21. Animal welfare organizations have strongly opposed the practice of racing the cattle in the name of Kambla and hitting them with canes.

Kambla is a famous traditional animal sports in South Kanara and Udupi. A series of events were planned to organize from November to February throughout both the districts. But a ban by apex court has saddened the Kambla lovers.

Ishika missing case will be solved soon: Vinaya Kumar Sorake

Udupi: The missing case of Ishika a 8th standard girl from Sharada residential school in Kunjibettu here will be solved soon said district incharge minister Vinaya Kumar Sorake on Friday November 21.

A team of police have reached Mumbai for investigation and if needed, help will be sought from Mumbai police he added. The investigation is conducted as per the details given by Ishika in her dairy. She had written in the dairy that she is a fan of TV actor Faizal Khan and going to meet him. So police are investigating on this clue and the case will be solved soon sorake said.

Agumbe ghat to be closed for three months

Udupi: Agumbe Ghat road which provides shortcut access to Shivamogga district will remain closed for three months from December 21 onwards for repair and broadening. The ghat section will be renovated with a cost of Rs. ten crores to a length of 2.5 km. The road in ghat section has proved extremely dangerous for vehicle goers with steep bends and numerous pot holes.

This road is preferred by motorists from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district as the ghat road provides the shortest connection to Shivamogga district. Once the road is closed, they will have to take alternative routes which are much longer in distance.

Youth went missing in Udupi

Udupi: A youth from Badanidiyoor went missing few days ago and a complaint has been filed in Malpe police station.

Sachin V. Karkera (24) resident of Kadike-Thottam near Babbu swamy temple in Badanidiyoor village here was said to be missing since many days. Police have urged the people having information about him to contact Malpe police.

8th standard girl goes missing in Udupi

Udupi: Parents of a school girl lodged a missing complaint of their daughter in the town police station on Wednesday November 19. The missing student is Eshika Shetty daughter of Yashodha and Shekra Shetty of Elinje in Kinnigoli and was a 8th standard student of  Sharada Residential School in Kunjibettu Kadiyali. Eshika was staying in the hostel of the school in Kunjibettu. Her parents were working in Muscat.

According to sources, on November 15, there was a sports meet in the school. Eshika was present at the meet in the morning but in the evening she did not return to the hostel. The school authorities filed a missing complaint in the town police station. But surprisingly the news did not appear on the police blog nor did it reach the media.

The incident came to light when Eshika’s mother called her on phone. As her mobile was switched off, her mother called the hostel staff in the evening. But there was no proper response from them. Worried about her daughter Yashodha came to Udupi only to know that her daughter was missing. Sub Inspector of town police station Madhu reached the school and gathered all the information about Eshika, Now a search is on for Eshika.

14 year boy tries to catch the ball, jumps off the compound wall, dies

Udupi: A 14 year boy lost his life when he tried to catch a ball and jumped from the compound wall of the apartment. The incident happened in Kunjibettu here on Sunday.

The deceased boy has been identified as Hrithik  S. Shetty. The boy was playing in the veranda of his flat in Mandavi apartments. The ball fell out of the flat and Hrithik in a bid to catch the ball jumped off the compound wall. He lost the balance and sustained serious injuries on his face, chest and head. The boy was immediately rushed to the hospital but breathed his last at around 11pm. A case of unnatural death has been filed at Udupi rural police station.
